Conquer one of the most formidable granite walls in the Karakoram

The smooth granite wall of Amin Brakk rises from the Nangma Valley like a fortress from another world—1,650 meters of vertical rock with few crack systems and an intimidating reputation that places it among the most technically demanding big wall climbs on the planet. Alpine Karakoram Adventure invites elite big wall climbers to join our Amin Brakk expeditions for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, with fixed departures scheduled from June through September—the optimal weather window when conditions are most stable for extended wall climbs . Our 35-day expedition covers every detail from your arrival in Islamabad to your safe return, including all logistics, Base Camp infrastructure, and professional support. As the peak is below 6,000 meters, it lies in an open zone requiring no peak permit from the government, simplifying the bureaucratic process . Slots are strictly limited for this extreme objective. Contact us to secure your place on one of the most formidable granite walls in the Karakoram.

Overview

Amin Brakk rises to 5,850 meters as one of the most spectacular and formidable granite walls in the entire Karakoram Range . Located in the renowned Nangma Valley near Kanday in Baltistan, Pakistan, this immense granite massif presents massive vertical faces with few obvious crack systems, creating one of the most challenging big wall climbing objectives in the world. While generally quoted at 5,850 meters, it is thought to be potentially higher and is frequently compared to the Trango Towers in difficulty—though many elite climbers consider it even more demanding . The Nangma Valley, where Amin Brakk stands, is celebrated as one of the finest rock climbing playgrounds in the Karakoram. The peak was named by a Spanish expedition in 1995 after their cook's son, Amin, following a tradition similar to the naming of nearby Nawaz Brakk . The valley hosts numerous granite walls and towers that attract world-class climbers seeking technical mastery in a remote setting. Other notable objectives in the immediate area include K6, K7, Kapura Peak, Niza Peak, and Drifika Peak, creating an extraordinary concentration of high-altitude climbing challenges. The climbing history of Amin Brakk is a chronicle of determination. After several failed attempts by Spanish, Basque, and British teams in the mid-90s, the first successful ascent was finally achieved in 1999. Spaniards Pep Masip, Silvia Vidal, and Miquel Puigdomènech spent 32 days on the west face to complete their route "Sol Solet" (Sun, Little Sun) . This legendary ascent, graded VII 6c+ A5, required hauling 500 kilograms of equipment—including 218 kilograms of water—up the wall, with some pitches taking up to three days to complete . In 2004, the peak saw further history when Russian Valery Rozov climbed and base jumped from the summit . Alpine Karakoram Adventure operates Amin Brakk expeditions during the summer climbing season from June to September. Our team provides comprehensive logistics from Islamabad through the Kanday and Nangma Valley approach, offering full Base Camp support throughout the extended climbing period. This 35-day expedition supports what is arguably one of the most demanding big wall climbing objectives accessible in the greater ranges today.

Note: This itinerary represents our standard plan based on experience organizing expeditions in the Nangma Valley region . The extreme big wall nature of Amin Brakk demands maximum flexibility. Weather, rock conditions, and the extraordinary difficulty of routes mean actual climbing duration varies significantly—the first ascent team required 34 days on the wall alone, while the Russian team spent 22 days on the mountain with only three sunny days during their entire stay . The west face is subject to constant falling rocks, snow, and ice from upper slopes, adding significant objective hazards . Your expedition operates independently on the technical climbing while we provide comprehensive Base Camp support.
